11. Studies on streptococcal M proteins. Interactions with IgA and human complement regulators
Sammanfattning : The human pathogenic bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus) expresses several different virulence factors. Of these, the M protein is regarded as one of the most important, because it confers resistance to phagocytosis, allowing the bacterium to multiply in blood. LÄS MER
12. Studies of two Yersinia proteins: YopJ, an inhibitor of inflammatory responses, and YpkA, a RhoA/Rac-binding kinase
Sammanfattning : Eukaryotic cells possess sensitive systems for the detection of microbes and microbial-derived products. Bacteria-eukaryotic cells contact triggers several signaling pathways, most of which are dependent on protein-protein interactions followed by phosphorylation, leading to activation of defense mechanisms. 13. Design and Synthesis of AT2 Receptor Selective Angiotensin II Analogues Encompassing β- and γ-Turn Mimetics
Sammanfattning : Important information on the bioactive conformation of biologically active peptides may be obtained by studies of rigid peptides or well-defined secondary structure mimetics incorporated into pseudopeptides. The structural requirements for the interaction of angiotensin II (Ang II, Asp-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro-Phe) with its AT1 and AT2 receptors were the subject of this study. LÄS MER
14. Evolutionary and functional studies of protein H: a surface molecule of Streptococcus pyogenes
Sammanfattning : Several bacterial species express surface proteins with affinity for the Fc part of human IgG. This thesis describes evolutionary and functional studies of protein H, an IgGFc-binding surface protein of the human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes. LÄS MER
15. Regulation of Mammalian Poly(A) Polymerase Activity
Sammanfattning : Poly(A) polymerase (PAP) is the enzyme catalyzing the synthesis of the adenine tail to the 3’-end of mRNA. This A-tail is present on the majority of the primary RNA transcripts of protein-coding genes, and is important for mRNA stability, export to the cytoplasm and translation. Therefore, PAP is a key regulator of eukaryotic gene expression. LÄS MER
