    Sammanfattning : Adaptation to fluctuating environments is critical for cellular fitness and survival. Cells need to sense changes in their surroundings and quickly adjust cellular homeostasis and metabolism accordingly. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Analyses of the expression and function of the aspartic protease napsin

    Författare :Takayuki Ueno; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2 DE) is one of the powerful tools for the expression profiling of proteins. Using 2 DE, two polypeptides which are expressed exclusively in primary lung adenocarcinomas have been described. Mass spectrometry of tryptic digests of these proteins revealed that they were identical to napsin A. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural Details of Human Aquaporin Regulation : Three stories of three aquaporins

    Författare :Veronika Nesverova; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Every cell is surrounded by a thin plasma membrane, protecting it from its surrounding. Specialized protein channels and transporters are embedded in this membrane, ensuring selective transport of molecules in and out of the cells. To maintain optimal hydration, water channels called aquaporins (AQPs) are present in every cell of our body. LÄS MER

  5. 5. High resolution genomic tools for the discovery of protein function in mammalian cells

    Författare :Emily Carol Hodges; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell-based assays; overexpression; RNAi; BC2; C3F; Taxol;

    Sammanfattning : The work described in this thesis emphasizes the development of cell-based strategies with increased throughput design that enable rapid biological discovery through direct investigation of protein function. Each of the works represented in this thesis are unified by the common premise that genetic perturbations, through loss or gain-of-function, in cell-based models may serve as an entry point for assigning biological roles to uncharacterized genes and their gene products.
