1. Wideband Sigma-Delta Modulators
Sammanfattning : Sigma-delta modulators (SDM) have come up as an attractive candidatefor analog-to-digital conversion in single chip front ends thanks to the continuousimproving performance. The major disadvantage is the limited bandwidthdue to the need of oversampling. LÄS MER
2. Structure-based Virtual Screening for Ligands of G Protein-coupled Receptors : Design of Allosteric and Dual-Target Modulators
Sammanfattning : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are integral membrane proteins responsible for signal transduction of extracellular stimuli into the cell. Because of their widespread distribution throughout the human body and important roles in physiological processes, GPCRs are prominent drug targets and approximately 34% of all approved drugs interact with members of this superfamily. 3. Surface-normal multiple quantum well electroabsorption modulators : for optical signal processing and asymmetric free-space communication
Sammanfattning : Electroabsorption is the physical phenomenon by which the absorption of light in a medium can be controlled by applying an electric field. The Quantum–Confined Stark Effect, which makes the absorption band–edge in quantum wells very field–dependent, together with the strong absorption peak provided by excitons, are the physical foundations for the success of electroabsorption modulators based on quantum well structures in telecommunication networks. 4. High-Speed Electroabsorption Modulators and p-i-n Photodiodes
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods for optimization ofelectroabsorption modulators (EAM) and p-i-n photodiodes (PD)withrespect to high frequency (HF) performance. Differentreactive matching techniques are investigated such as lumpedmatching and integrated transmission line (TML) layouts includingoperation in the traveling-wave (TW) regime. LÄS MER
5. Modulators of UCP1-dependent thermogenesis : Glucocorticoids, diet and novel research models
Sammanfattning : The activation and recruitment of brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis has been put forward as a promising strategy to reduce the disease burden of obesity and obesity-related diseases. Heat production by BAT can be attributed to the tissue-specific mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). LÄS MER
