6. Metabolomics, body composition and fracture
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I evaluated the impact of pre-centrifugation sample management on the plasma metabolome, providing verification for the protocol used in a study where I applied metabolomics to better understand the role of body composition in fracture occurrence using a large population-based cohort. In paper 1, I applied untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) metabolomics analysis to plasma samples (n = 471) from healthy donors to predict and evaluate the effect of pre-centrifugation temperature and delay time on metabolomics data using a combination of random forest and generalized linear models. 7. Enhancing prediction and causal inference in metabolic dyshomeostasis
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on two globally prevalent diseases: i) non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and ii) type 2 diabetes (T2D), with an overall aim of improving prediction and causal inference in the context of these conditions. Our projects were mainly conducted using IMI DIRECT and UK Biobank datasets including multi-omics data, extensive environmental exposures, and biological intermediates. LÄS MER
8. Mind & Well-being : The relationships between personality and health related pathology
Sammanfattning : The study of the associations between personality, lifestyle and health related pathology has revealed important associations. These include associations with physical health such as the onset of cardiovascular disease, but also with mental and emotional health such as depression or life satisfaction. LÄS MER
9. Molecular Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality, with increasing prevalence worldwide.Identification of risk markers may enable improved prevention by targeting high-risk individuals, earlier disease diagnosis and treatment, as well as stratification of disease subtypes with different treatment options, thereby minimizing side effects while increasing success rates. 10. Novel statistical methods for genome-wide association summary statistics
Sammanfattning : A general objective of genetic studies is to understand the genetic basis of complex traits such as height, body mass index (BMI), disease endpoints, etc. Such researches have been facilitated due to the completion of the human genome project and developments of high-throughput technologies.
