2. Model Studies of Surface Waves and Sediment Resuspension in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Wave heights and periods of surface waves in the Baltic Sea have been modelled for a two-year period (1999-2000) with the wave model Hypas on an 11x11-km grid scale. There is a clear seasonal variation with higher waves during winter and lower during summer. LÄS MER
3. Silicon cycling in the Baltic Sea : Trends and budget of dissolved silica
Sammanfattning : The dissolved silicon (DSi) has a crucial role for growth of a large group of primary producers – diatoms and, hence, impact on functioning of the aquatic food web. This thesis contributes to an increased understanding of the modifications of the DSi cycling in the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER
4. Modelling organic matter dynamics in aquatic systems
Sammanfattning : Organic matter is a small but active part of the global carbon cycle. About one third is stored in the oceans where it has a relatively short residence time. The rest is found in the terrestrial biomass and in the soil. Aquatic systems exchange C02 with the atmosphere. LÄS MER
5. Physical control of primary production in a sub-arctic reservoir
Sammanfattning : The first paper (Paper I) in this thesis treats autumn cooling in the Swedish lake Väsman. The water temperature is simulated using a one-dimensional lake model where the vertical mixing is calculated by a k - ɛ turbulence model. The heat exchange between the atmosphere and the lake is formulated in terms of heat fluxes. LÄS MER
