  1. 1. Adverse effects of curative treatment of prostate cancer

    Författare :Jon Örn Fridriksson; Pär Stattin; Camilla Thellenberg-Karlsson; Mats Lambe; Francesco Montorsi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; prostate-specific antigen; decision aids; radical prostatectomy; radiotherapy; patient readmission; adverse effects; Urology; kirurgi; särskilt urologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background Screening for prostate cancer is debated, there is conflicting data on the net benefit of screening. Men who consider screening need to be informed on the pros and cons. Rehospitalization after surgery can be used as an indicator of general quality of care. For radical prostatectomy, little is known on the readmission rate after surgery. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The use of a satellite-derived cloud climatology for studying cloud-aerosol processes and the performance of regional cloud climate simulations

    Författare :Karl-Göran Karlsson; Erland Källen; Jon-Egil Kristjansson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Clouds and climate; satellite cloud climatology; validation of clouds; clouds and aerosols; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : The entry of satellite-derived decadal cloud datasets with homogeneous coverage in time and space enables studies not possible before. This thesis presents two such applications. The first study deals with cloud-aerosol processes and the second with an evaluation of cloud simulations from a regional climate model. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Population Differentiation in Solidago virgaurea along Altitudinal Gradients

    Författare :Anna Bergsten; Jon Ågren; Staffan Karlsson; Kari Lehtilä; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population differentiation; altitudinal gradient; plant nutrient status; resorption efficiency; resorption proficiency; flowering phenology; countergradient variation; reproductive effort; flower production; cost of reproduction; Biology; Biologi; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Altitudinal gradients offer attractive opportunities for studies of population differentiation in response to environmental heterogeneity. In this thesis, I examined population differentiation along altitudinal gradients by combining common-garden experiments with field studies and experiments in alpine, subalpine and boreal populations of the perennial herb Solidago virgaurea. 4. 4. Entreprenørers fortellinger : en identitetsstudie i det opplevelsesbaserte reiselivet

    Författare :Randi Bredvold; Jon Helge Lesjø; Sven-Erik Karlsson; Anders W. Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; entrepreneurs; life story; identity studies; experience-based tourism; entreprenører; livsberättelse; identitets studier; opplevelsesbasert turisme; Sociology; Sociologi; Sociologi; Sociology;

    Sammanfattning : This is a narrative study in which five entrepreneurs in the experience-based tourist industry have told their life-stories in connection with their establishing and running their own enterprises.   Over the last decades the number of adventure-based companies has markedly increased in tourist industry, but the knowledge gained through the research on the persons who establish these companies is scant. 5. 5. Contributions to quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI

    Författare :Anders Garpebring; Mikael Karlsson; Ronnie Wirestam; Nils Östlund; Jón Hauksson; Steven Sourbron; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI; quantitative imaging; parameter estimation; uncertainty estimation; arterial input function; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) has the potential to produce images of physiological quantities such as blood flow, blood vessel volume fraction, and blood vessel permeability. Such information is highly valuable, e.g., in oncology. LÄS MER
