26. Molecular basis for the anti-inflammatory properties of chlomethiazole
Sammanfattning : Chlomethiazole (CMZ) exerts neuroprotective effects in animal models of stroke, and its clinical efficacy is currently evaluated in acute stroke patients. CMZ also protects the liver from alcohol- induced oxidative damage by inhibiting the cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1), as well as inflammation associated with alcohol liver disease (ALD) by inhibiting cytokine expression. 27. Pain and radiographic changes of the arthritic temporomandibular joint : relation to cytokines in synovial fluid and plasma
Sammanfattning : In patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory joint diseases, radiographic changes of the TMJ are frequently observed. Common symptoms of TMJ involvement are pain at rest and on movement of the jaw. LÄS MER
28. Regulation of prostaglandin E2 synthesis in human gingival fibroblasts
Sammanfattning : Prostaglandins, especially, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) play an important role in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis. The aim of the present thesis was to study the production and the regulation of PGE2 with special reference to the key enzymes phospholipase A2 (PLA2) and cyclooxygenase (COX) at the rnRNA level in human gingival fibroblasts. 29. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response
Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. LÄS MER
30. Prostaglandin E2 in immune-to-brain signaling
Sammanfattning : Upon immune-challenge, signaling from the immune system to the brain triggers an array of central nervous responses that include fever, anorexia, hyperalgesia and activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary adrenal axis. These symptoms are dependent on cytokines produced at the site of inflammation. LÄS MER
