  1. 26. Molecular basis for the anti-inflammatory properties of chlomethiazole

    Författare :Anastasia Simi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke; neuroprotection; p38 MAP kinase; chlomethiazole; interleukin-1; c-fos; inflammation; glia; lipopolysaccharide; molecular mechanisms; ischaemia;

    Sammanfattning : Chlomethiazole (CMZ) exerts neuroprotective effects in animal models of stroke, and its clinical efficacy is currently evaluated in acute stroke patients. CMZ also protects the liver from alcohol- induced oxidative damage by inhibiting the cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1), as well as inflammation associated with alcohol liver disease (ALD) by inhibiting cytokine expression. 2. 27. Pain and radiographic changes of the arthritic temporomandibular joint : relation to cytokines in synovial fluid and plasma

    Författare :Silvi Nordahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Arthritis; Bone loss; Interleukin- 1 beta; Pain; Plasma; Progression; Radiographic changes; Synovial fluid; Temporomandibular joint; Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory joint diseases, radiographic changes of the TMJ are frequently observed. Common symptoms of TMJ involvement are pain at rest and on movement of the jaw. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Regulation of prostaglandin E2 synthesis in human gingival fibroblasts

    Författare :Tülay Yucel-Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :prostaglandin E2; cyclooxygenase; phospholipase A2 interleukin-1; tumor necrosis factor [alpha]; epidermal growth factor; protein kinase C; tyrosine kinases; human gingival fibroblasts;

    Sammanfattning : Prostaglandins, especially, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) play an important role in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis. The aim of the present thesis was to study the production and the regulation of PGE2 with special reference to the key enzymes phospholipase A2 (PLA2) and cyclooxygenase (COX) at the rnRNA level in human gingival fibroblasts. 4. 29. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response

    Författare :Ebbe Rønholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbondioxide; complement activation; cytokines; endotoxaemia; hydrogen-ion concentration; liver transplantation; laser-Doppler flowmetry; PMN elastase; regional blood flow; reperfusion;

    Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Prostaglandin E2 in immune-to-brain signaling

    Författare :David Engblom; Tamas Bartfai; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Upon immune-challenge, signaling from the immune system to the brain triggers an array of central nervous responses that include fever, anorexia, hyperalgesia and activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary adrenal axis. These symptoms are dependent on cytokines produced at the site of inflammation. LÄS MER
