  1. 11. Insulin-antagonistic neurohormonal pathways in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Martin Lundqvist; Jan W Eriksson; Niclas Abrahamsson; André van Beek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucagon; cortisol; ACTH; growth hormone; counter-regulation; clamp; hypoglycemia; hyperglycemia; obesity; type 2 diabetes; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : According to the current paradigm, the development of type 2 diabetes is driven by insulin resistance and the gradual failure of beta cells to compensate for this by secreting adequate amounts of insulin. Obesity is an important risk factor for type 2 diabetes and is considered to influence disease development primarily by induction of insulin resistance, via mechanisms that have not been fully elucidated. 2. 12. Exocytosis in insulin secreting cells - role of SNARE-proteins

    Författare :Jenny Vikman; Diabetes - öcellsexocytos; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; calcium channel; cAMP; syntaxin 1; SNAP-25; SNARE; exocytosis; Insulin secretion; pancreatic beta-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is marked by deterioration in pancreatic β-cell function. SNARE-proteins are crucial for the fusion of insulin granules with the plasma membrane, a prerequisite for insulin secretion. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Diabetes in adolescent girls : Endocrine influences on metabolic control with special regard to the GHI/IGF-I Axis

    Författare :Maria Halldin Stenlid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Insulin dependent diabetes; adolescent; growth hormone; insulin-like growth factor-I; insulin-like growth factor binding protein1; insulin sensitivity; pirenzepine; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic control frequently deteriorates during puberty in girls with IDDM, and is often accompanied by excessive weight gain. This impairment has been ascribed the peripubertal psychosocial as well as somatic changes. Puberty is characterised by a unique endocrine milieu. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Murine insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus : a model for disease development and protection

    Författare :Björn Pilström; Dan Holmberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is an autoimmune disease caused by destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreatic Langerhans' islets. This destruction is preceded by an infiltration of mononuclear leukocytes called insulitis. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Carbohydrate-Rich Foods in the Treatment of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome : Studies of the Importance of the Glycaemic Index and Dietary Fibre

    Författare :Anette Järvi; Gabriele Riccardi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; diabetes; insulin resistance; carbohydrates; starch; glycaemic index; dietary fibre; postprandial; second-meal; glucose; insulin; triacylglycerol; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : The glycaemic responses to various carbohydrate-rich foods are partly dependent on the rate at which the carbohydrate is digested and absorbed. The glycaemic index (GI) is a way of ranking foods according to their glycaemic response and is recommended as a useful tool in identifying starch-rich foods that give the most favourable glycaemic response.
