1. Flood Hazard Assessment in Data-Scarce Basins : Use of alternative data and modelling techniques
Sammanfattning : Flooding is of great concern world-wide, causing damage to infrastructure, property and loss of life. Low-income countries, in particular, can be negatively affected by flood events due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Moreover, data to perform studies for flood risk management in low-income regions are often scarce or lacking sufficient quality. LÄS MER
2. Organizing physical flow data : from input-output tables to data warehouses
Sammanfattning : Data on flows of materials and substances through the economy and the environment are collected by many different organizations and play a key role in the science of industrial ecology. In this thesis, a framework is suggested for structuring and organizing such data. LÄS MER
3. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy
Sammanfattning : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. 4. Approximation Algorithms for Geometric Networks
Sammanfattning : The main contribution of this thesis is approximation algorithms for several computational geometry problems. The underlying structure for most of the problems studied is a geometric network. LÄS MER
5. Designing Affective Loop Experiences
Sammanfattning : There is a lack of attention to the emotional and the physical aspects of communication in how we up to now have been approaching communication between people in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). As designers of digital communication tools we need to consider altering the underlying model for communication that has been prevailing in HCI: the information transfer model. LÄS MER
