  1. 1. Internal frost damage in concrete - experimental studies of destruction mechanisms

    Författare :Katja Fridh; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tining; frysning; kallt klimat; frostskador skador; betong; materiallära; materialteknik; frost; ice formation; material technology; calorimetry; concrete; length change; upptining; fukt; beständighet; livslängd; forskning;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to identify mechanisms acting at internal frost destruction of concrete. By 'internal frost destruction' is meant damage caused inside concrete that is moisture insulated from the surroundings, i.e. when no moisture exchange with the surroundings is possible during freeze-thaw. 2. 2. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils

    Författare :Deniz Dagli; Jan Laue; Tommy Edeskär; Lukas Arenson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cold Regions Soil Mechanics; Frost Action; Frost Depth; Frost Heave; Heat Flow in Soils; Ice Lens Formation; Image Analysis; Laboratory Freezing Test; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program. 3. 3. On the Phase Behaviour of Soft Matter: Understanding Complex Interactions via Quantitative Imaging

    Författare :Maxime Bergman; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microgels; Lysozyme; eye lens proteins; confocal microscopy; interaction potential; phase behaviour; simulations;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of microscopic colloid interactions on the resultant macroscopic phase behaviour is a frequently studied topic in soft matter resarch, and lies at the heart of this thesis. Key structural and dynamic properties of colloidal model systems across liquid-solid transitions are tracked using optical imaging techniques. LÄS MER
