  1. 11. Biophysical studies of membrane associated peptides

    Författare :Jesper Lind; Astrid Gräslund; Lena Mäler; Christian Griesinger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; spectroscopy; membrane interaction; bicelles; Chemistry; Kemi; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : A large part of the processes in living organisms involves proteins acting in a biological membrane. Biophysical studies on isolated model systems can give important understandings of the complicated biological mechanisms in the membrane. In this thesis peptide membrane interaction mechanisms are studied in several different systems. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Biophysical studies of peptides with functions in biotechnology and biology

    Författare :Fatemeh Madani; Astrid Gräslund; Steven F. Dowdy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetic fluorescence label; Biarsenical tetracysteine motif; Cell-penetrating peptides; Large unilamellar vesicles; Pyrenebutyrate; Endosomal escape; Membrane perturbation; Bacteriorhodopsin; Dynorphin; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : My thesis concerns spectroscopic studies (NMR, CD and fluorescence) of peptides with functions in biotechnology and biology, and their interactions with a model membrane (large unilamellar phospholipid vesicles).The resorufin-based arsenical hairpin binder (ReAsH) bound to a short peptide is a useful fluorescent tag for genetic labeling of proteins in living cells. 3. 13. Photoswitchable Peptidomimetics : Synthesis and Photomodulation of Functional Peptides

    Författare :Miranda Varedian; Adolf Gogoll; Morten Grøtli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; β-hairpin; peptidomimetics; stilbene; thioaurone; photochemistry; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The secondary structure of peptides is of pivotal importance for their biological function. The introduction of photoswitchable moieties into the backbones of peptides provides a unique way of regulating their conformation using an external stimulus, i.e., light. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Biophysical studies of cell-penetrating peptides and of the RNR inhibitor Sml1

    Författare :Elsa Bárány-Wallje; Astrid Gräslund; Joachim Seelig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell-penetrating peptides; transportan; bicelles; Sml1; Biophysics; Biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Several short peptides, so called cell-penetrating peptides, have the capability to transport large hydrophilic cargos through the cell membrane. The objective is to use these peptides as drug carriers and thereby enhance the uptake of drugs into cells.Three different cell-penetrating peptides are characterized in this thesis. LÄS MER

  5. 15. HYDROPHOBIC PEPTIDE TAGS - As tools in bioseparation and investigation of recombinant proteins

    Författare :Sara Fexby; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; Biochemical technology; Biokemisk teknik; fusion protein; tyrosine; hydrophobicity; Hydrophobic interaction chromatography; aqueous two-phase system;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the possibility of using hydrophobic peptide tags as tools for bioseparation and for the investigation of recombinant proteins. The hydrophobicity of a protein can easily be changed by minor modifications, such as fusions of tyrosine-containing peptides. LÄS MER
