  1. 6. STRUCTURAL, FUNCTIONAL AND EVOLUTIONARY STUDIES OF ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES

    Författare :Mukesh Pasupuleti; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amphipathicity and end-tagging protease susceptibility; anaphylatoxin C3a; P. aeruginosa; S. aureus; innate immunity; amphipathic molecules; Antimicrobial peptides; infectious disease; bacteriostatic; microbicidal and cytolytic properties;

    Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial peptides represent a heterogeneous group that displays multiple modes of action such as bacteriostatic, microbicidal and cytolytic properties that are sequence and concentration dependent. Life threatening infectious disease is now a worldwide crisis and treating them effectively is becoming difficult day by day, due to the emergence of antibiotic resistant strains at alarming rates. 2. 7. Actions of Antimicrobial Peptides and Bacterial Components in Inflammation

    Författare :Thorgerdur Sigurdardottir; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sepsis; LL-37; M1 protein; S. pyogenes; Toll-like receptors; phenylephrine; nitr1c oxide; antimicrobial peptides;

    Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial peptides are evolutionally ancient parts of the innate immune system and their primary role is to protect us from infections. The human cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide, LL-37, not only possesses broad spectrum antimicrobial activities but is also able to bind and neutralize bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), an important trigger of the widespread inflammatory response contributing to septic shock. 3. 8. Structural Transitions in Helical Peptides : The Influence of Water – Implications for Molecular Recognition and Protein Folding

    Författare :Martin Lignell; Hans-Christian Becker; Kaare Teilum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein dynamics; protein folding; molten globule; time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy; CD spectroscopy; molecular recognition; structure-function paradigm; Chemical physics; Kemisk fysik; Physical Chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Fluctuations in protein structure are vital to function. This contrasts the dominating structure-function paradigm, which connects the well-defined three-dimensional protein structure to its function. However, catalysis is observed in disordered enzymes, which lack a defined structure. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Mass Spectrometry with Electrospray Ionization from an Adjustable Gap

    Författare :Patrik Ek; Åsa Emmer; Johan Roeraade; Per M. Claesson; Ulrika Nilsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electrospray ionization; mass spectrometry; nanoelectrospray; ESI; MS; chip; emitter; gap; liquid bridge; nozzle; peptides; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the fabrication and analytical evaluation of two new electrospray emitters utilized for mass spectrometry analysis is presented. The emitters are based on a new concept, where the spray orifice can be varied in size. The thesis is based on two papers. All present-day nanoelectrospray emitters have fixed dimensions. LÄS MER
