2. Going for gold : A spectroelectrochemical and catalytic study of gold materials
Sammanfattning : With the increase in demand for renewable energy, understanding chemical processes is essential for improving the design of catalysts in order to achieve better performance. This thesis summarises the experimental investigation of three types of catalytic gold materials: gold oxide formed from gold films, oxide-derived gold (OD-Au) produced from gold films, and gold nanoparticles supported on metal oxides. 3. DESIREE: Instrumentation Developments and Hot Metal Cluster Decays
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents instrumentation developments and measurements performed at the Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment, DESIREE, at Stockholm University. DESIREE operates at cryogenic temperatures ~13 K, with very low background pressures of ~10-14mbar, allowing the observation of stored ions to long times of tens of seconds and longer. LÄS MER
4. Heterogeneous Integration of Shape Memory Alloysfor High-Performance Microvalves
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods for fabricating MicroElectroMechanical System (MEMS) actuators and high-flow gas microvalves using wafer-level integration of Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) in the form of wires and sheets. The work output per volume of SMA actuators exceeds that of other microactuation mechanisms, such as electrostatic, magnetic and piezoelectric actuation, by more than an order of magnitude, making SMA actuators highly promising for applications requiring high forces and large displacements. 5. Human studies evaluating dGEMRIC as a prognostic tool for knee osteoarthritis
Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder worldwide, causing joint pain and stiffness. The current gold standard for diagnosing knee OA is radiography. However, the disease has often progressed well beyond the point of no return once radiographic cartilage changes become visible. LÄS MER
