1. Wafer-level heterogeneous integration of MEMS actuators
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods for the wafer-level integration of shape memory alloy (SMA) and electrostatic actuators to functionalize MEMS devices. The integration methods are based on heterogeneous integration, which is the integration of different materials and technologies. LÄS MER
2. Heterogeneous Integration of Shape Memory Alloysfor High-Performance Microvalves
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods for fabricating MicroElectroMechanical System (MEMS) actuators and high-flow gas microvalves using wafer-level integration of Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) in the form of wires and sheets. The work output per volume of SMA actuators exceeds that of other microactuation mechanisms, such as electrostatic, magnetic and piezoelectric actuation, by more than an order of magnitude, making SMA actuators highly promising for applications requiring high forces and large displacements. 3. Catch and effort from a recreational trolling fishery in a large lake
Sammanfattning : Over recent decades recreational fisheries have grown substantially throughout the world. Despite this increase, catches from recreational fisheries have often been ignored in fisheries management, although this is now being remedied. LÄS MER
4. Hydrological Modeling for Climate Change Impact Assessment : Transferring Large-Scale Information from Global Climate Models to the Catchment Scale
Sammanfattning : A changing climate can severely perturb regional hydrology and thereby affect human societies and life in general. To assess and simulate such potential hydrological climate change impacts, hydrological models require reliable meteorological variables for current and future climate conditions. LÄS MER
5. Carbon trace gas dynamics in subarctic lakes
Sammanfattning : Northern lakes are important sources of greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane to the atmosphere. Emissions are expected to increase as the climate continues to warm. Even so, lake carbon budgets are currently poorly constrained. This is in part because of a limited understanding of the processes that govern the flux. LÄS MER
