21. Tribology of Carbon Based Coatings for Machine Element Applications
Sammanfattning : Demands on lower fuel consumption, reduced pollution, increased operating times, etc. force the automotive industry to constantly improve the performance of critical machine elements. In this development various carbon based coatings have proven very promising, mainly because of their low friction and high wear resistance in dry sliding contacts. LÄS MER
22. Short- and long-term consequences of sport-related concussion
Sammanfattning : Concussions are common in contact sports. Symptoms such as confusion and/or loss of consciousness following an impact to the head indicate that a sport-related concussion (SRC) has occurred. The symptoms normally resolve within 10-14 days following an SRC in adults although at least 10 % of athletes suffer from prolonged symptoms. LÄS MER
23. Experimental and numerical analysis of scratching of homogeneous materials
Sammanfattning : Paper AAbstractA numerical strategy based on the finite element method and intended for an accurate analysis of the scratch test is presented. For simplicity, but not out of necessity, the material was described by classical Mises elastoplasticity utilising large deformation theory. LÄS MER
24. Auditory and Olfactory Abilities in Blind and Sighted Individuals : More Similarities than Differences
Sammanfattning : Blind individuals face various challenges in everyday life because of the lack of visual input. However, since they need to rely on the non-visual senses for everyday tasks, for instance, when navigating the environment, the question has been raised as to whether perceptual and cognitive abilities in these senses may be enhanced. 25. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods.
