11. Ice, wood and rocks : regulating elements in riverine ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Riparian ecosystems are of great importance in the landscape, connecting landscape elements longitudinally and laterally and often encompassing sharp environmental gradients in ecological processes and communities. They are influenced by fluvial disturbances such as flooding, erosion and sediment deposition, which create dynamic and spatially heterogeneous habitats that support a high diversity of species. 12. Genetic analyses of multiple myeloma and related plasma cell dyscrasias
Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic changes have proved to be of diagnostic and prognostic importance in different hematologic malignancies as well as in some solid tumor types. However, although multiple myeloma (MM), an incurable disease, and its proceeding stage monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are quite common, little is known about the karyotypic features of these plasma cell dyscrasias. 13. Lipid Oxidation in Fillets of Herring (Clupea harengus) during Processing and Storage
Sammanfattning : The influence of storage and processing on the development of lipid oxidation in herring fillets was investigated and related to their composition of lipids, catalysts and antioxidants. The progress of oxidation was monitored as antioxidant loss and as the development of primary, secondary and tertiary lipid oxidation products. LÄS MER
14. Genetic Identification of Corkwing Wrasse Cleaner Fish Escaping from Norwegian Aquaculture
Sammanfattning : The genetic impact of farmed fish escaping aquaculture is a highly debated issue. However, non-target species, such as cleaner fish that are used in fish farms to remove parasitic sea lice, are rarely considered. LÄS MER
15. Genetic and Ecological Consequences of Fish Releases : With Focus on Supportive Breeding of Brown Trout Salmo trutta and Translocation of European Eel Anguilla anguilla
Sammanfattning : Although the practice of releasing fish into the wild is common in the management and conservation of fish populations, the success of release programmes and the potential harmful genetic and ecological effects that may follow are rarely considered. This thesis focuses on genetic and ecological consequences of fish releases, exemplified by supportive breeding of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and translocation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla).
