  1. 1. Antigen interaction with B cells in two proliferative disorders : CLL and MGUS

    Författare :Eva Hellqvist; Anders Rosén; Jan Ernerudh; Anne Mette Buhl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to elucidate B cell interaction with antigen in the two B cell proliferative disorders chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). In the first part we investigated the antigen specificity of CLL cells and characterized Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-transformed CLL cell lines with regard to phenotype and genotype. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic analyses of multiple myeloma and related plasma cell dyscrasias

    Författare :Therese Nilsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetik; cytogenetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; FISH; cytogenetic; multiple myeloma; MGUS;

    Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic changes have proved to be of diagnostic and prognostic importance in different hematologic malignancies as well as in some solid tumor types. However, although multiple myeloma (MM), an incurable disease, and its proceeding stage monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are quite common, little is known about the karyotypic features of these plasma cell dyscrasias. 3. 3. Infectious immunity and pneumococcal vaccine responses in multiple myeloma and related disorders

    Författare :Johanna Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; multiple myeloma; Waldenstrom s macroglobulinemia; MGUS; elderly; immunity; infection; pneumococcal vaccination; ELISA; opsonophagocytosis;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM), Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM), and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are B cell conditions associated with suppressed immune functions and susceptibility to infection. Severe pneumococcal disease is common not least in MM patients and vaccination is considered important, although the protective efficacy is debated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Potential role of anti-cytokine autoantibodies in the regulation of cytokine responses in infections and autoimmune diseases

    Författare :Rihab Abdel Magid Awad El Karim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cytokines; autoantibodies; MS; AM; ST; MGUS; GBS; lower respiratory tract infection; mAbs;

    Sammanfattning : Anti-cytokine autoantibodies are serum proteins that bind cytokines and specifically interfere with measurements and biological activities of the corresponding cytokines. Plasma, sera, and CSF were obtained from patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), aseptic meningitis (AM), stroke (ST), and polyneuropathy, Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance : natural course and comorbidities

    Författare :Ebba K Lindqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a plasma cell disorder characterized by an overproduction of monoclonal immunoglobulins. MGUS is asymptomatic but clinically relevant since annually 0.5-1.5% of individuals with MGUS will develop multiple myeloma (MM) or another malignant lymphoproliferative disease. LÄS MER
