  1. 11. Regularization for Sparseness and Smoothness : Applications in System Identification and Signal Processing

    Författare :Henrik Ohlsson; Lennart Ljung; Jacob Roll; Bo Wahlberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Regularization; sparsity; smothness; lasso; l1; fMRI; bio-feedback; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : In system identification, the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) is a well known method to balance the model fit against model complexity. Regularization here acts as a price on model complexity. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Age differences in arousal, perception of affective pictures, and emotional memory enhancement : Appraisal, Electrodermal activity, and Imaging data

    Författare :Joachim Gavazzeni; Håkan Fischer; Richard J. Davidson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Aging; Affective function; subjective ratings; SCRs; FMRI; Pictures; Emotional memory enhancement; Bottom-up and Top-down processing; Psychology; Psykologi; psykologi; Psychology;

    Sammanfattning : In contrast to effortful cognitive functions, emotional functioning may remain stable or even be enhanced in older adults. It is unclear how affective functions in aging correspond to subjective experiences and physiological changes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Genes to remember : imaging genetics of hippocampus-based memory functions

    Författare :Karolina Kauppi; Lars Nyberg; Jonas Persson; Guillén Fernández; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Imaging genetics; fMRI; Episodic memory; SNP; KIBRA; BDNF; APOE; Hippocampus; Parahippocampus;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of imaging genetics, brain function and structure are used as intermediate phenotypes between genes and cognition/diseases to validate and extend findings from behavioral genetics. In this thesis, three of the strongest candidate genes for episodic memory, KIBRA, BDNF, and APOE, were examined in relation to memory performance and hippocampal/parahippocampal fMRI blood-oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) signal. 4. 14. Epilepsy in young adulthood : medical, psychosocial and functional aspects

    Författare :Helena Gauffin; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Birgitta Söderfeldt; Maria Engström; Thomas Karlsson; Lena Räty; Elinor Ben-Menachem; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Epilepsy; young adult; Quality of Life; self-esteem; daily life; antiepileptic drugs; cognition; language; fMRI; Sence of Coherence;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to describe the medical, cognitive and psychosocial consequences of epilepsy in young adulthood. Four studies were carried out with this patient group. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Amygdala, Fear and Reconsolidation : Neural and Behavioral Effects of Retrieval-Extinction in Fear Conditioning and Spider Phobia

    Författare :Johannes Björkstrand; Mats Fredrikson; Emily Holmes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Fear conditioning; phobia; memory reconsolidation; retrieval-extinction; exposure therapy; amygdala; fMRI; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The amygdala is crucially involved in the acquisition and retention of fear memories. Experimental research on fear conditioning has shown that memory retrieval shortly followed by pharmacological manipulations or extinction, thereby interfering with memory reconsolidation, decreases later fear expression.
