  1. 16. Imaging imagining actions

    Författare :CJ Olsson; Lars Nyberg; A.Mark Williams; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mental training; motor training; novices; imaging; athletes; fMRI; internal imagery; motor representation; brain systems; practice; learning; transfer; active; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mental training has been studied extensively for the past century but we are still not completely sure how it affects brain and behavior. The aim of this doctoral thesis was to examine one aspect of mental training i.e. motor imagery. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes

    Författare :Erika Dahlin; Lars Nyberg; Anna Stigsdotter Neely; Torkel Klingberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognitive training; executive functioning; transfer; fMRI; brain system; young adults; elderly; practice; neural correlates; individual differences; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Cognitive science; Kognitionsforskning; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks. 3. 18. Effect of timing training in golf and soccer players : skill, movement organization, and brain activity

    Författare :Marius Sommer; Louise Rönnqvist; Charlotte Häger; Nicola Hodges; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Motor timing; rhythmicity; timing training; golf shot; golf swing; kinematics; precision; variability; coordination; movement dynamics; soccer; fMRI; mirror neurons; action observation; cerebellum; perception - action.; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background Although trainers and athletes consider ‘good timing skills’ to be critical for optimal sport performance, little is known in regard to how sport-specific skills may benefit from timing training. Thus, assuming that all motor performances are mediated by an internal timing mechanism, enhanced motor timing is expected to have positive effects on both planning and execution of movement performance, and consequently on complex sports actions as golf or soccer. 4. 19. Similarity-based processes in human multiple-cue judgment : evidence from brain imaging and cognitive modelling

    Författare :Sara Stillesjö; Linnea Karlsson Wirebring; Lars Nyberg; Håkan Nilsson; Alan Sanfey; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; multiple-cue judgment; similarity-based; rule-based; exemplar-based model; fMRI; cognitive modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Background: We often make judgments that require the consideration of several sources of information. For example, a teacher that grades a student´s exam question often integrates multiple sources of information (cues: details provided in the answer) into a single criterion dimension (the grade). 5. 20. Thin-fibre signalling in humans: Cortical processing of sensory afference and autonomic efference

    Författare :Karin Rylander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :CT afferent; thin fibre; autonomic; insula; fMRI;

    Sammanfattning : Thin nerve fibres innervate the entire human body and mediate sensations such as pain, temperature and visceral sensory input. Moreover, a special class of unmyelinated afferents responsive to light touch has recently been found in humans: C-tactile (CT) fibres. LÄS MER
