  1. 1. Common mechanism for teratogenicity of antiepileptic drugs : Drug-induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage

    Författare :Faranak Azarbayjani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Atiepileptik drugs; embryonic heart; arrhythmia; cleft palate; ROS; antioxidants; Ikr; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Antiepilptic drugs (AEDs) phenytoin (PHT), carbamazepine (CBZ), phenobarbital (PB), tri- and dimethadione (TMD and DMD) are known teratogens having a common malformation pattern in human and animal studies. This thesis was designed chiefly to test a hypothesis correlating the teratogenicity of these AEDs to episodes of pharmacologically induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage. 2. 2. The informational value and usefulness of serum retinoid measurements. Studies on biological variation, including infancy and pregnancy, and influence of fasting, antiepileptic drugs and ethanol

    Författare :Maria Berggren Söderlund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; vitamin A deficiency; teratogenicity; ethanol; antiepileptic drugs; caloric restriction; infant; pregnant; biological variation; 13-cis retinoic acid; all-trans retinoic acid; Vitamin A; retinol;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of these studies were to evaluate retinoid measurements, more specifically the performance of all-trans and 13-cis retinoic acids methods in clinical experimental settings and to evaluate the informational value of these measurements in relation to S-Retinol. Biological and analytical variations for retinoids were evaluated for healthy subjects. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to describe the medical, cognitive and psychosocial consequences of epilepsy in young adulthood. Four studies were carried out with this patient group. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Generic Drug Switch in Epilepsy – Pharmacokinetic and Clinical Aspects

    Författare :Patrik Olsson; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Generic drug; Antiepileptic drugs; Pharmacokinetics; Treatment outcome;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aim: Generic drugs contain the same active ingredients as brand- name drugs, with the advantage of much lower costs. The aim of this thesis was to contribute new knowledge to the ongoing debate on the safety of generic antiseizure drug (ASD) substitutions. There was a particular emphasis on the pharmacokinetic and clinical outcomes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Monitoring of antiepileptic drugs using microdialysis : methodological and clinical aspects

    Författare :Martin Lindberger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In therapeutic monitoring of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) the level of unbound drug at the sampling site should ideally equal the unbound concentration at receptor sites. Microdialysis enables direct sampling of the unbound drug concentration and avoids some of the difficulties encountered with ex vivo protein binding. LÄS MER
