    Sammanfattning : Fågel, fisk eller förundran? A study of existential attitudes based on essays written in a multicultural upper secondary school for adults The aim of this study is to survey and interpret outlooks on life as expressed in 175 essays written (1999-2001) in a multicultural Swedish suburb by adult students learning Swedish, Swedish as a Foreign Language, and Philosophy. The theoretical background rests on existential hermeneutics with Sartre (1943, 1946, 1984) as the most important philosophical source. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bird orientation: external cues and ecological factors

    Författare :Johan Bäckman; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tracking radar; Emlen funnel.; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; oscillatory orientation; roosting flight; scatter; concentration; heading; cue calibration; light dependent; magnetoreception; subcutaneous fat stores; body condition; energetics; geomagnetic field; visual cues; orientation; birds; migration;

    Sammanfattning : Birds are generally capable of accurate orientation. In this thesis I present studies about the external cues and the ecological factors that influences bird orientation. A multitude of environmental cues are used to select and maintain a proper direction. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatial Vision in Birds: Anatomical investigation of spatial resolving power

    Sammanfattning : Avian eyes are big both in relative and absolute terms, thus the importance of vision to birds is obvious. Even though the general eye plan is rather conservative throughout the group, there is a great variation in visual capabilities. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; Corvidae; Paridae; dominance rank; memory; food hoarding; foraging; hippocampus; birds; behavioural ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Food hoarding is a widespread behavior among a large number of animals, and it exists in several different varieties, all of them used by the animals as a method of having a steady supply of food during periods of low food abundance such as the winter. This thesis concentrates mainly on two aspects of scatter food hoarding behavior, using small birds as study and model animals. LÄS MER
