  1. 36. Lumbar muscle fatigue : analysis of electromyography, endurance time and subjective factors in patients with lumbar disc herniation and healthy subjects

    Författare :Åsa Dedering; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Disability; electromyography; endurance; gender; healthy subjects; lumbar disc herniation; lumbar extensor muscles; muscle fatigue; non-linear regression; recovery; subjective ratings;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to investigate the relation between objectively and subjectively assessed lumbar muscle fatigue and subjective factors in patients with lumbar disc herniation and in healthy subjects. Eighty healthy subjects and 43 patients undergoing surgery for lumbar disc herniation and selected consecutively for the study participated. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction

    Författare :Lars-Gunnar Elmqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; ligaments; articular; surgery; muscle fibre; isokinetics; exercise therapy; muscular atrophy; electromyography;

    Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER

  3. 38. The pelvic floor and genital prolapse : a clinical, physiological and radiological study

    Författare :Annika López; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Electromyography; Genital prolapse; Paradoxical sphincter reaction; Pelvic floor; Peritoneocele; Radiology; Rectocele;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To determine the frequency of concomitant colorectal disorders in patients with rectocele, and to assess any such association with rectocele; to investigate if paradoxical sphincter reaction (PSR) is influenced by the rectal filling volume; to investigate if surface electromyography (EMG) is a reliable method for diagnosing PSR; to evaluate the use of defeco-peritoneography (DP) in patients with an unexplained widening of the rectovaginal space at defecography; to study the long-term results after rectocele repair and to evaluate parameters that might influence the outcome; to evaluate pre- and postoperative findings at cysto-defeco-peritoneography (CDP) in patients with genital prolapse. Methods: EMG of the anal sphincter muscles was carried out and PSR was diagnosed using needle, wire and/or surface electrodes. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Neuromuscular aspects of eccentric knee extensor actions : effects of electrical stimulation, age, gender and training

    Författare :Jan Seger; Alf Thorstensson; Roger Enoka; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Fysiologi; children; concentric; eccentric; efficiency; electrical stimulation; electromyography; growth; inhibition; isokinetic; specificity; strength; training;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study the effects of electrical stimulation, age, gender and training on the torque- and EMG-velocity relationships during eccentric knee extensor muscle actions in man. An isokinetic custom-built dynamometer was evaluated and used throughout the thesis. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Neural control of standing posture

    Författare :Craig Tokuno; Andrew Cresswell; Alf Thorstensson; Marc Carpenter; Thomas Sinkjær; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology; Posture; motor cortex; electromyography; kinematics; H-reflex; pre-synaptic inhibition; transcranial magnetic stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : When humans are asked to stand normally, they are not completely motionless. Rather, small amounts of body movement, termed postural sway, can be observed. Although the postural sway of standing has been well described, the manner in which this sway is neurally controlled and its influence in tasks involving postural re-stabilization are not known.
