1. Neural control of standing posture
Sammanfattning : When humans are asked to stand normally, they are not completely motionless. Rather, small amounts of body movement, termed postural sway, can be observed. Although the postural sway of standing has been well described, the manner in which this sway is neurally controlled and its influence in tasks involving postural re-stabilization are not known. 2. Neuroendocrinology of agonostic interaction and social signalling in Artic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) : Studies on the neuroendocrine regulation of aggressive behaviour, stress responses and skin colour
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows that socially subordinate Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) display elevated brain serotonergic (5-HT) and norepinephric activity along with a chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis, including elevated plasma concentrations of á-MSH. Furthermore, subordinate fish showed an inhibition of aggressive behaviour and darker body coloration, skin darkness being positively correlated with plasma á-MSH. LÄS MER
3. Non-linear synaptic integration on dendrites of striatal medium-spiny neuron : a computational study
Sammanfattning : Striatum is the main input nucleus of basal ganglia. Medium-spiny neurons (MSNs), the principal neurons of the striatum, receive convergent excitatory inputs from cortex and thalamus, thus “gate” the information flow to the basal ganglia. LÄS MER
4. A Purkinje cell Timing Mechanism. On the Physical Basis of a Temporal Duration Memory
Sammanfattning : The standard view of neural signaling is that a neuron can influence its target cell by exciting or inhibiting it. Learning is thought to involve strengthening or weakening synaptic connections. For most behaviors, the brain must learn to produce precisely timed activity patterns. LÄS MER
