  1. 1. Vaginal prolapse surgery : an epidemiological perspective : studies of native tissue repair versus implants, surgeons´ practical experiences and five year follow-up in the swedish national quality register for gynecological surgery

    Författare :Emil Nüssler; Mats Löfgren; Marie Bixo; Martin Stjernquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pelvic organ prolapse; Kaplan-Meier curves; long-term follow-up; quality register; questionnaire; patient reported outcome; cystocele; rectocele; colporrhaphy; non-absorbable mesh; surgical experience; hälso- och sjukvårdsforskning; health services research; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition that impacts on quality of life for many women. The mean age of Swedish women operated for POP is 60 years, and with a life expectancy of approximately 84 years this means that the average patient will live 24 years subsequent to the operation. 2. 2. The pelvic floor and genital prolapse : a clinical, physiological and radiological study

    Författare :Annika López; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Electromyography; Genital prolapse; Paradoxical sphincter reaction; Pelvic floor; Peritoneocele; Radiology; Rectocele;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To determine the frequency of concomitant colorectal disorders in patients with rectocele, and to assess any such association with rectocele; to investigate if paradoxical sphincter reaction (PSR) is influenced by the rectal filling volume; to investigate if surface electromyography (EMG) is a reliable method for diagnosing PSR; to evaluate the use of defeco-peritoneography (DP) in patients with an unexplained widening of the rectovaginal space at defecography; to study the long-term results after rectocele repair and to evaluate parameters that might influence the outcome; to evaluate pre- and postoperative findings at cysto-defeco-peritoneography (CDP) in patients with genital prolapse. Methods: EMG of the anal sphincter muscles was carried out and PSR was diagnosed using needle, wire and/or surface electrodes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation and treatment of pelvic organ prolapse : clinical, radiological and histopathological aspects

    Författare :Daniel Altman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bowel function; Cystodefecoperitoneography; Histology; Pelvic organ prolapse. Rectal prolapse; Rectocele; Safety; Xenograft;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To assess the use of cystodefecoperitoneography (CDP) in clinical and radiological diagnosis of cystocele; to study the correlation between clinical and radiological findings at CDP and to evaluate if anatomical topography and structural abnormality corresponds to symptomatic presentation when assessing posterior vaginal wall prolapse; to evaluate if xenograft used at rectocele repair was associated with adverse clinical and histological inflammatory reactions; to prospectively examine if rectocele repair using xenograft is a safe method providing satisfactory clinical and symptomatical outcome; and to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of genital prolapse and urinary incontinence in female patients operated for rectal prolapse. Methods: The following methods were used: The Pelvic organ prolapse quantification system (POPQ), CDP, bowel function questionnaires, pelvic floor surveys, histological, histopathological and clinical inflammatory quantification. 4. 4. Peritoneocele : a radiological study with defaeco-peritoneography

    Författare :Staffan Bremmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Defaecography enterocele evacuatiml proctography herniography peritoneocele peritoneography rectal intussusception: rectal prolapse rectocele.;

    Sammanfattning : Report study: Defaecography reports from 2816 patients were evaluated. Twenty-three per cent of the investigations were considered normal, 31% showed rectal intussusception, 13% rectal prolapse, 27% rectocele, and 19% enterocele. A standardised protocol is suggested to ensure a complete evaluation of defaecography. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Burch colposuspension and the pelvic floor

    Författare :Preben Kirkegaard Kjølhede; Ian Milson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The Burch colposuspension is a surgical method for treatment of stress urinary incontinence, which has become popular due to a high cure-rate. A number of patients, however, develop recurrent urinary incontinence after the colposuspension, or other disabling conditions, such as genital prolapse or voiding difficulties. LÄS MER
