  1. 16. Opportunities in small population breeding in black cottonwood : or The little population that could

    Författare :Rami-Petteri Apuli; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Small and structured populations are problematic for breeding due to low levels of genetic variability and increased levels of linkage disequilibrium (LD). The increased LD causes problems with utilization of common genomic tools and may lead into increased accruement of deleterious alleles through the intense selection and bottlenecks characteristic of breeding. 2. 17. Population Genetics and Genome Organization of Norway Spruce

    Författare :Hanna Larsson; Martin Lascoux; Bruno Fady; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Picea abies; demographic history; linkage disequilibrium; HMPR; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the underlying genetic causes of adaptation to local conditions is one of the main goals of population genetics. A strong latitudinal cline in the phenotypic trait of bud set is observed in present day populations of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Effects of Selection and Demography on DNA Polymorphism in Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)

    Författare :Per Sjödin; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Mikkel Schierup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; population genetics; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The evolution of three genes from the CONSTANS-LIKE gene family is studied in Brassica nigra. We use a combination of population genetic and phylogenetic techniques in order to assess the relative importance of selection and demography on the pattern of DNA variation. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Investigating the impacts of Late Pleistocene climate change on Arctic mammals using palaeogenomics

    Författare :Edana Lord; Love Dalén; Mirte Bosse; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeogenomics; Arctic; Late Pleistocene; past climate; collared lemming; woolly rhinoceros; Norwegian lemming; muskox; demography; population structure; speciation; adaptation; genome erosion; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The climatic fluctuations of the Late Pleistocene likely had a large impact on the evolutionary history of Arctic species. Palaeogenomics is a useful tool to shed light on how past populations responded to these climatic shifts and the associated ice sheet dynamics and sea level change. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Bolivian creole cattle: population structure, genetic diversity and management practices

    Författare :Gabriela Bottani; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Characterization studies of local livestock breeds are important to identify their potential and value for the Global Animal Genetic Resources. Important traits have been attributed to local breeds including adaptability and resilience to harsh environments and other traits with potential use in breeding schemes oriented towards the challenges of climate change.
