    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptide Y (NPY) system consists of 3-4 peptides and 4-7 receptors in vertebrates. It has powerful effects on appetite regulation and is involved in many other biological processes including blood pressure regulation, bone formation and anxiety. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Conifer Evolution, from Demography and Local Adaptation to Evolutionary Rates : Examples from the Picea genus

    Författare :Jun Chen; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Matt Olson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Speciation; Demographics; clinal variation; convergent evolution; transcriptome; small regulatory RNA; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Evolutionary process can be inferred at three different levels: the species level, the population level and the molecular level. In this thesis, I applied approaches at these three levels and aimed to get a comprehensive picture of conifer evolution, from speciation and demography to geographic variation and local adaptation, and then to the molecular evolution of proteins and small regulatory RNAs. 3. 3. Birds as a Model for Comparative Genomic Studies

    Författare :Axel Künstner; Hans Ellegren; Hanna Johannesson; Chris Ponting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Birds; Selection; Gene expression; Sequence evolution; Next-generation sequencing; Comparative genomics; Molecular evolution; Genomics; Substitution Rates; Non-coding DNA; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Comparative genomics provides a tool to investigate large biological datasets, i.e. genomic datasets. In my thesis I focused on inferring patterns of selection in coding and non-coding regions of avian genomes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Rates and patterns of bryophyte molecular evolution

    Författare :Anna-Malin Linde; Ulf Lagercrantz; Nils Cronberg; D. Magnus Eklund; Jonathan Shaw; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Plants have been growing on land for at least 450 million years. The bryophytes comprising the three phyla liverworts, mosses and hornworts, are considered to be the closest extant relatives to the plants that colonized land. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genome evolution and adaptation of a successful allopolyploid, Capsella bursa-pastoris

    Författare :Dmytro Kryvokhyzha; Martin Lascoux; Vincent Castric; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; allopolyploidy; population structure; selection; genetic drift; gene expression; parental legacy; genetic load; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : The term allopolyploid refers to an organism that originated through hybridization and increased its ploidy level by retaining the unreduced genomes of its parents. Both hybridization and polyploidy usually have negative consequences for the organism. LÄS MER
