  1. 6. Understanding the Influence of Wood Extractives on Off-Gassing during Storage of Wood Pellets

    Författare :Workson Siwale; Jonas Berghel; Gunnar Henriksson; Michael Finell; Stefan Frodeson; Gunnar Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Off-gassing; Carbon Monoxide; Carbon Dioxide; Methane; Self-heating; Additive Oils; Fatty and Resin Acids; Solid Biofuels; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Sammanfattning : Wood pellets have become a solid biomass fuel of choice because they are a standardized product with known quality properties. However, the self-heating and off-gassing tendencies during storage of wood pellets threatens the consistency of the pellets’ quality properties. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Hygroscopic Properties of Aerosols from Open-Air Burning and Controlled Combustion of Biomass

    Författare :Jenny Rissler; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cloud condensation nuclei; H-TDMA; CCN; hygroscopic growth; Teknik; internal and external mixture; CLAIRE; SMOCC; Physics; Fysik; Environmental chemistry; Technological sciences; Miljökemi; tandem differential mobility analyzer; slash and burn; Amazon; Biomass burning; combustion; Fysicumarkivet A:2005:Rissler;

    Sammanfattning : The major uncertainty in predicting the influence of human activities on global climate change is the effect of aerosols. Two physical properties of aerosols largely controlling their influence on climate are the particle number size distribution and the interaction of the particles with the surrounding water vapor. 3. 8. Study of heat release rates of mining vehicles in underground hard rock mines

    Författare :Rickard Hansen; Haukur Ingason; Nicholas Dembsey; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : A unique study on fire safety in hard rock underground mines with focus on heat release rates of mining vehicles is presented. A literature inventory was conducted with respect to fires in underground hard rock mines, which revealed that the most common fire cause in underground mines was flammable liquid sprayed onto hot surface and the most common fire object was a vehicle. 4. 9. Lifecycle of Black Carbon in the Arctic

    Författare :Roxana S. Cremer; Ilona Riipinen; Peter Tunved; Sara Blichner; Hannele Korhonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Black Carbon; Aerosols; Arctic; lifecyle; absorption; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis investigates the atmospheric life cycle of Black Carbon (BC) in the Arctic. The Arctic region has been rapidly changing in the last decades and the role of BC aerosols in this is still uncertain. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Acute cardiovascular effects of biofuel exhaust exposure

    Författare :Jon Unosson; Jenny A Bosson; Anders Blomberg; Jeremy P Langrish; Campen Matthew; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular; air pollution; endothelial dyssfunction; arterial stiffness; wood smoke; woodsmoke; biodiesel; RME; biofuel; diesel exhaust;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundAnthropogenic air pollution is a global health problem estimated to contribute to millions of premature deaths. Exposure to biomass smoke is common due to varying sources, such as wildfires, indoor cooking over open fires, and residential heating from wood stoves. LÄS MER
