  1. 21. Analysis of the origin and spread of the domestic dog using Y-chromosome DNA and mtDNA sequence data

    Författare :Mattias Oskarsson; Peter Savolainen; Ben Sacks; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mtDNA; domestication; Y-chromosome; SNP; ASY; dog; dingo;

    Sammanfattning : The domestic dog was probably the first domesticated animal, and the only one to spread to all continents in ancient times. The dog is one of the most phenotypically diverse animals, a result of human selection throughout dog history. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Exploring genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations through next generation sequencing

    Författare :Nima Rafati; Leif Andersson; Carl-Johan Rubin; Alvaro Martinez Bario; Craig Primmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecological adaptation; seasonal reproduction; Atlantic herring; domestication; speciation; rabbit; skeletal atavism; Shetland ponies; NGS; SMRT sequencing; genome; transcriptome; assembly; structural variation; genetic diversity; HCE; TSHR; SHOX; CRLF2;

    Sammanfattning : Studying genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations is of major importance in evolutionary biology. The recent advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has dramatically changed the scope of these studies, enabling researchers to study genetic diversity in a whole-genome context. 3. 23. Sustainable Interactions : Studies in the Design of Energy Awareness Artefacts

    Författare :Loove Broms; Magnus Bång; Henrik Eriksson; Daniel Fällman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interaction design; energy awareness; sustainability; domestication; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a collection of experimental designs that approach the problem of growing electricity consumption in homes. From the perspective of design, the intention has been to critically explore the design space of energy awareness artefacts to reinstate awareness of energy use in everyday practice. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Stress and the Offspring : Adaptive Transgenerational Effects of Unpredictability on Behaviour and Gene Expression in Chickens (Gallus gallus)

    Författare :Daniel Nätt; Per Jensen; Berry Spruijt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chicken; Red junglefowl; Domestication; Epigenetics; Transgenerational; Inheritance; Gene expression; Microarray; qRT-PCR; Immunogenetics; Immunoglobulin; Estradiol; Steriod hormones; Prenatal stress; Epigenetic inheritance; Adaptation; Stress; Behaviour; Ethology of domestic animals; Husdjurens etologi;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental stress has shown to affect both the exposed individuals and the development of their offspring. Generally, it is thought that the stressed organism responds to stress by trying to adapt to it. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Mycket väsen om ingenting : Hur datorn och internet undgår att formas till medborgarens tekniker

    Författare :Tobias Olsson; Bo Reimer; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In what way/ways – if at all – are the computer and the internet tools for individuals’ roles as citizens in the Swedish working class?What is new information and communication technology’s significance – if any – for individuals’ identities as citizens within Swedish working class culture?The empirical results are discouraging for advocates who have put their trust in new information and communication technology as a potential civic tool. For instance, the study reveals that the computer and the internet can only be considered as marginal phenomena in the everyday lives of the Swedish working class, for these tools are barely used, and further, are perceived as difficult to operate.
