11. Definition of axonal injury tolerances across scales : A computational multiscale approach
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is today regarded as a global health challenge. Revealing how external mechanical loads translate into tissue and cellular damage is necessary, not only for the development of better preventive measures, but also for the definition of treatments that could spare the patients from suffering TBI's devastating consequences. 12. Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury
Sammanfattning : Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a complex phenomenon occuring in response to interruption of the liver’s blood and oxygen supply and the subsequent restoration of blood flow and tissue oxygenation. Techniques to reduce blood loss and other intra-operative manoeuvers during liver resection can cause hepatic I/R injury. LÄS MER
13. Bestrophin-3: Localization and function in normal and injured tissues
Sammanfattning : Bestrophin-3 (Best3) is a protein with multiple functions. It can constitute a calcium-activated chloride channel when overexpressed in cultured cells, but the function of Best3 is not well studied in cells in situ. Recently Best3 protein was suggested to play also cell-protective role. LÄS MER
14. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study
Sammanfattning : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death. 15. Extracellular matrix as a regulator of cell behavior : Biological effects of hyaluronan biosynthesis and catabolism
Sammanfattning : Extracellular matrix surrounding cells is an important regulator of cellular functions. Hyaluronan (HA) is a glycosaminoglyean and a constituent component of the extracellular matrix in all tissues. It is synthesized by hyaluronan syntheses (HAS) at the inner surface of cell membrane and degraded by hyaluronidases to small fragments. LÄS MER
