  1. 11. Body fat distribution, inflammation and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Fredrik Toss; Anna Nordström; Peter Nordström; Jan Ekstrand; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fat mass; lean mass; fat distribution; stroke; myocardial infarction; cardiovascular disease; cardiovascular risk factors; inflammation; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; mortality; erythrocyte sedimentation rate; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the major health issues of our time. The prevalence of CVD is increasing, both in industrialized and in developing countries, and causes suffering and a decreased quality of life for millions of people worldwide. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Dog Ownership and Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Mwenya Mubanga; Tove Fall; Liisa Byberg; Erik Ingelsson; Unnur Valdimarsdottir; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :dog ownership; cardiovascular risk; cardiovascular disease; pet ownership; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : The relationship between pet ownership and human health has been studied extensively; however, the effect of dog ownership on human health has had conflicting results. The overall aim of this research project was to investigate the impact of dog ownership, and the death of the dog, on human cardiovascular health and all-cause mortality. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Smokeless Tobacco (Snus) and Cardiovascular Disease : Associations with Heart Failure and Prognosis after Myocardial Infarction

    Författare :Gabriel Arefalk; Johan Sundström; Martin Holzmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Snus; smokeless tobacco; nicotine; cardiovascular disease; heart failure; myocardial infarction; mortality; prognosis; epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Previous investigations of snus use (oral moist snuff, a Swedish form of smokeless tobacco) and cardiovascular disease have generally focused on atherosclerotic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, likely because smoking is such a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic disease. Smokeless administration of tobacco circumvents most of the atherogenic effects of the combusted products from smoked tobacco, but it is possible that the potent autonomic and hemodynamic effects of snus and nicotine per se are detrimental for cardiovascular tissues. 4. 14. Carotid artery disease : plaque features and vulnerability

    Författare :Fisnik Jashari; Michael Henein; Per Wester; Christine Kremer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carotid atherosclerosis; ultrasound; plaque features; echogenicity; calcification; surface plaque irregularities; subclinical atherosclerosis; cerebrovascular symptoms; Cardiology; kardiologi; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Atherosclerosis is an important cause of stroke. Ultrasound offers the convenience of real-time and detailed assessment of carotid plaque features as well as arterial wall thickening and composition. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality : influence of fitness, fatness and genetic factors

    Författare :Gabriel Högström; Anna Nordström; Peter Nordström; Johan Sundström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; all-cause mortality; aerobic fitness; obesity; cardiovascular disease; stroke; myocardial infarction; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; Population studies; befolkningsstudier; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundLow aerobic fitness and obesity are associated with atherosclerosis, and thereforegreatly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and early death. It has long been known that atherosclerosis my begin early in life. LÄS MER
