6. Carbon Emissions from Western Siberian Inland Waters
Sammanfattning : Inland waters (i.e. rivers, streams, lakes, ponds) emit carbon (C) into the atmosphere. The magnitude of global inland water C emission has been estimated to equal the global ocean C sink, thus making inland waters an important component of the global C cycle. LÄS MER
7. Fullerene-like carbon nitride thin solid films
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is to establish synthesis-structure-property- performance relations for nano structured carbon nitride thin solid films. This material consists of bent and frequently intersecting nitrogen-containing graphite basal planes, where nitrogen plays an important role for the initiation of inter-planar cross-links and the induction of curvature via pentagon formation, much like in Buckminster Fullerenes - hence, the terminology "fullerene-like carbon nitride". 8. Carbon Nitride : Characterization and Protein Interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns synthesis and characterization of carbon-based materials and theinvestigation of the possible use, of a selection of these materials, in biomedicalapplications. Protein adsorption and blood plasma tests were used for this purposeutilizing a surface sensitive technique called spectroscopic ellipsometry. LÄS MER
9. The Mussel Adhesive Protein (Mefp-1) : A GREEN Corrosion Inhibitor
Sammanfattning : Corrosion of metallic materials is a natural process, and our study shows that even in an alkaline environment severe corrosion may occur on a carbon steel surface. While corrosion cannot be stopped it can be retarded. LÄS MER
10. Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of C2-Symmetric HIV-1 Protease Inhibitors : Development and Applications of In Situ Carbonylations and other Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Reactions
Sammanfattning : The HIV protease is an essential enzyme for HIV replication and constitutes an important target in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Efficient combination therapies using inhibitors of the reverse transcriptase and protease enzymes have led many to reevaluate HIV infections from a terminal condition to a chronic-but-manageable disease in the developed world.
