  1. 6. Molecular mechanisms of nociception in the rat brain : anatomical connections and trans-synaptic regulation of gene expression of neurons in the pontine parabrachial nucleus

    Författare :Ola Hermanson; Tomas Hökfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The pontine parabrachial nucleus (PB) is a major recipient of fibers fromnociceptive (pain-responsive) spinal and trigeminal dorsal horn neurons. With the use of combinations of molecular and morphological techniques, the anatomical connections of PB neurons and their expression of neuropeptide genes and transcription factors were studied, both in naive rats and in rats that had been subjected to nociceptive stimulation. 2. 7. NR4A orphan nuclear receptors in immediate early regulation of retinoid signaling and neuroprotection

    Författare :Nikolaos Volakakis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : NR4A receptors show distinct properties that make them unique within the family of nuclear receptors. They lack a ligand-binding cavity and a canonical coactivator-binding site and they are induced both in vivo and in vitro in an immediate early way by an extremely wide repertoire of substances/conditions. 3. 8. Regulation of the Epstein-Barr Virus Latent Membrane Protein 1 Expression

    Författare :Pegah Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Gene regulation; LMP1; Epstein-Barr virus; Herpesvirus;

    Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a probably the most effective and successful human virus, infecting more than 90% of the world?s adult population. As with the other members of the herpesvirus family, EBV establishes latent infection in its host and persists life-long. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Molecular basis for the anti-inflammatory properties of chlomethiazole

    Författare :Anastasia Simi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke; neuroprotection; p38 MAP kinase; chlomethiazole; interleukin-1; c-fos; inflammation; glia; lipopolysaccharide; molecular mechanisms; ischaemia;

    Sammanfattning : Chlomethiazole (CMZ) exerts neuroprotective effects in animal models of stroke, and its clinical efficacy is currently evaluated in acute stroke patients. CMZ also protects the liver from alcohol- induced oxidative damage by inhibiting the cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1), as well as inflammation associated with alcohol liver disease (ALD) by inhibiting cytokine expression. 5. 10. Intracellular mechanisms in rd1 mouse retinal degeneration

    Författare :Leif Johnson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Neuroprotection; Photoreceptor; Retinitis Pigmentosa; Oftalmologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited disorder and the leading cause of visual impairment in the working age population. It is caused by a number of different genetic mutations, all of which cause the rod photoreceptors to degenerate. As the rods become few in numbers, the cones will also begin to die, resulting in total blindness. LÄS MER
