  1. 1. Signal Transduction in Photoreceptor Proteins : Insights From Time-Resolved X-ray Solution Scattering

    Författare :Oskar Berntsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Signal transduction; Photoreceptor; Time-resolved X-ray solution scattering; Protein dynamics; Phytochrome; Light-oxygen-voltage; Cryptochrome;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to sense and react to different light conditions is of great importance for many organisms on the face of the earth. Specialized proteins known as photoreceptor proteins provide bacteria, plants and animals with this ability. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intracellular mechanisms in rd1 mouse retinal degeneration

    Författare :Leif Johnson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Neuroprotection; Photoreceptor; Retinitis Pigmentosa; Oftalmologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited disorder and the leading cause of visual impairment in the working age population. It is caused by a number of different genetic mutations, all of which cause the rod photoreceptors to degenerate. As the rods become few in numbers, the cones will also begin to die, resulting in total blindness. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Selective wavelength pupillometry to evaluate outer and inner retinal photoreception

    Författare :Aki Kawasaki; Fatima Pedrosa Domellöf; Bertil Lindblom; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pupil; pupil light reflex; melanopsin; photoreceptor; intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cell; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Sammanfattning : PurposeIntrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) express a unique photopigment called melanopsin. Capable of direct phototransduction, the ipRGCs are also influenced by rods and cones via synaptic inputs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. rd1 Photoreceptor Degeneration: Photoreceptor Rescue and Role of Metalloproteases in Retinal Degeneration

    Författare :Poonam Ahuja Jensen; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; retinal degeneration; Survival factors; metalloproteases;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis is focused on an attempt to delay photoreceptor cell death in the rd1 mouse using Lens Epithelium Derived Growth Factor (LEDGF), Glutathione S-Transferase mu (GST-?? and Glutathione S-Transferase alpha (GST-?? in an organ culture paradigm as well as the role of metalloproteases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors in photoreceptor degeneration (TIMPs). The rd1 mouse model displays a retina degeneration which starts around day 10 with rod photoreceptor cell death. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Development of photoreceptor organs in teleosts, Molecular and immunocytochemical studies

    Författare :Johan Forsell; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish; opsin; extraretinal; retina; Development; pineal organ; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many vertebrate animals are known to have multiple sites for photoreception that are not involved in vision. Extraretinal photoreception is indicated to play a crucial role in early development, physiology and behavior, as well as in later biological processes. LÄS MER
