  1. 11. Exercise in Youth and Long-Term Effects on Bone and Joints

    Författare :Magnus Tveit; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arthroplasty; BMD; bone mass; bone geometry; bone size; exercise; former athletes; fracture; fragility fracture; knee injury; osteoarthritis; osteoporosis; hip injury; runners; soccer; total joint replacement;

    Sammanfattning : Partly due to an ageing population, the number of osteoporosis-related fractures and osteoarthritis (OA)-related hip and knee arthroplasty procedures is increasing. The individual suffering and the burden on society for these conditions is immense. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Mechanisms of Osseointegration: Experimental Studies on Early Cellular and Molecular Events in vivo

    Författare :Omar Omar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osseointegration; titanium; bone; gene expression; bone-implant interface; qPCR; inflammation; cytokine; chemotaxis; chemokine; integrin; bone formation; remodeling; in vivo; rat; immunohistochemistry; ultrastructure; biomechanical torque test;

    Sammanfattning : The early cellular and molecular activities determining the early tissue response and bone formation at bone/implant interface are not fully understood. The general aim of the current thesis was to develop a model for studying the early molecular and cellular activities in different bone types, and in response to different implant surface properties. 3. 13. An injectable biphasic bone substitute in sinus augmentation

    Författare :Anna Truedsson; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dentala implantat; Dental Implants; Bone transplantation; Bone substitutes;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns a new synthetic, injectable bone substitute, Cerament™, primarily developed for treatment of vertebral fractures. The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the properties of the newbone substitute, that is, whether it can contribute to the generation of new bone formation needed for placement of future dental implants. 4. 14. The role of physical activity on bone density and bone geometry in men

    Författare :Martin Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :bone mineral density; bone geometry; trabecular microarchitecture; physical activity; men;

    Sammanfattning : THE ROLE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ON BONE DENSITY AND BONE GEOMETRY IN MEN Introduction: Several studies indicate that peak bone mass, reached during the third decade in life, is an important determinant of osteoporosis later in life. Physical activity with dynamic loading of the bone is an important determinant of peak bone mass. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Bone Mineral Density Determination in Children. Evaluation of a novel method and application to Duchenne muscular dystrophy

    Författare :Ann-Charlott Söderpalm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adolescents; age- and gender-matched; Becker; bone densitometry; bone markers; bone mineral density; calciotropic hormones; children; DXA; DXL; Duchenne; glucocorticoids; muscular dystrophy; normative; reference values; skeleton;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate the dual-energy X-ray and laser (DXL) method for bone densitometry measurements of the calcaneus in children, to provide reference data for bone mineral density (BMD) in the heel bone in young children and to apply the DXL technique to patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and conduct a survey about bone health of DMD patients. Study populations and methods: The DXL Calscan method was modified and adapted for measurements in children and applied to bone densitometry in all subsequent studies. LÄS MER
