1. Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Uncemented Total Hip Arthroplasty : Effects of Immediate Weight Bearing on Implant Stability, Bone Mineral Density, and Body Composition
Sammanfattning : The initial recommendation for the postoperative regime after uncemented total hip arthroplasty (THA) was 6-12 weeks of partial weight bearing (PWB) to obtain a stable implant position during bone ingrowth. In recent years patients with uncemented THA have increasingly practiced full weight bearing (FWB) after surgery, which has largely been based on clinical experience rather than on scientific evidence. 2. Physical activity, bone gain and sustainment of peak bone mass
Sammanfattning : Weak and osteoporotic bones are an increasing cause of mortality and painful physical impairment among the elderly, especially in the Western world. Bone mineral density (BMD, g/cm2) accrual during childhood and adolescence is thought to influence an individual’s risk of osteoporosis and the related fractures. LÄS MER
3. Young adults with childhood-onset inflammatory bowel disease - aspects of bone mineral density, body composition and physical exercise
Sammanfattning : Background: Our research group has previously shown that low bone mineral density (BMD) is common in children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, there is limited knowledge on the development of BMD and body composition traits (skeletal muscle and body fat) in early adulthood in this patient group. LÄS MER
4. Exercise in Youth and Long-Term Effects on Bone and Joints
Sammanfattning : Partly due to an ageing population, the number of osteoporosis-related fractures and osteoarthritis (OA)-related hip and knee arthroplasty procedures is increasing. The individual suffering and the burden on society for these conditions is immense. LÄS MER
5. Hip fracture prevention by screening and intervention of elderly women in primary health care
Sammanfattning : Hip fracture prevention by screening and intervention of elderly women in Primary Health Care Daniel Albertsson Background – One in four Swedish women suffers a hip fracture (HF). In order to identify high-risk women we developed clinical 4-item scores as the FRAMO (Fracture and Mortality) Index, evaluated heel bone mineral density (BMD) and undertook interventions to improve mobility, reduce falls and HF.
