31. Computational methods for assessing chemical risk : focusing on toxicokinetic modelling in zebrafish (danio rerio)
Sammanfattning : New chemicals are constantly produced and large data gaps exist on hazards of currently used industrial chemicals, stressing the need for rapid, ethically sound and cost-efficient hazard assessment methods. Traditional methods for effect assessment based on animal testing, do not meet these requirements and thus the toxicology field has been moving towards the development of new approach methodologies which include in vitro approaches but also computational methods. 32. Monitoring persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals, 1984 - 2009
Sammanfattning : The Arctic has become an important indicator region for assessing persistence and bioaccumulation properties of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This thesis is aimed at evaluating the occurrence of persistent halogenated POPs in seven species of sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals over a 25-year period. LÄS MER
33. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are anthropogenic compounds recognised for their persistence, mobility and potential toxicity. This thesis examines the efficacy of phytoremediation as a potential technique for managing PFAS-contaminated soil and groundwater. LÄS MER
34. Fate of contaminants in Baltic Sea sediment ecosystems : the role of bioturbation
Sammanfattning : Aquatic sediments are of major importance for the cycling of environmental pollutants, acting as both sinks and secondary sources of contaminants to the ecosystem. Sediment-living organisms can affect the fate and transport of contaminants through activities like feeding and burrowing, collectively called bioturbation. LÄS MER
35. Characterisation of PFASs and Organofluorine in Freshwater Environments : Transfer from water to land via emergent aquatic insects
Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are anthropogenic contaminants of emerging concern, because many are highly persistent to degradation and have been linked to adverse effects in humans as well as their ubiquitous spread in aquatic environments. This thesis investigated distribution of PFASs and organofluorine in freshwater environments impacted by PFAS point sources. LÄS MER
