  1. 31. The Role of Dopamine-Metabolising Enzymes in Renal Sodium Handling. An Experimental Study in vivo

    Författare :Cecilia Odlind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; dopamine; kidney; sodium; MAO; COMT; rat; mice; RBF; oxygen; renal; L-dopa; DOPAC; entacapone; phenelzine; dopamine receptors; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) has been shown to act as an intrarenal natriuretic hormone and defects in the renal DA system have been associated with some forms of hypertension. How the DA activity is upregulated durin- increased sodium intake is, however, unknown. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Maria Samuelsson-Almén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Aqneous humor flow; intraocular pressure; adenylate cyclase; nonpigmented ciliary epithelium; pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; dopamine; prostaglandin; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation. 3. 33. Studies on stress in African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) : Stress associated cortisol and prolactin levels, lymphocyte modulation and pathological changes in adrenal cortex, stomach and hippocampus in the African green monkey (C. aethiops)

    Författare :Mbaruk Abdalla Suleman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; adrenal cortex; capture; confinement; cortisol; husbandry; housing; hippocampus; lymphocytes; prolactin; stomach; stress; wild; African green monkeys; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : African green monkeys (AGMs) are highly susceptible to captivity-induced stress. An investigation of spontaneous deaths of laboratory confined AGMs at the Institute of Primate Research, Nairobi, Kenya over a period of 7.5 years documented mild to severe gastric mucosal erosions and ulcers in 83 of 260 (32%) necropsies. 4. 34. Retinal glucose metabolism and blood flow : Effects of photic stimulation

    Författare :Lin Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; blood flow; darkness; flicker; glucose oxidation; glycolysis; lactate; light; nitric oxide; optic nerve; retina; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinal glucose metabolism was investigated under different light conditions in cats,pigs and rabbits. Glycolysis and glucose oxidation in the outer and inner parts of theretina were assessed by determining arteriovenous concentration differences foroxygen, glucose and lactate, as well as local blood flow. 5. 35. Chloride Homeostasis in Central Neurons

    Författare :Tushar Yelhekar; Staffan Johansson; Michael Druzin; Merab Kokaia; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chloride concentration; current-voltage relation; interpolation; voltage ramp; reversal potential; [Cl–]i recovery; KCC2; extracellular matrix; GABAA receptor; chloride leak conductance; neurosteroid; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis is to clarify the control of intracellular chloride homeostasis in central neurons, because of the critical role of chloride ions (Cl–) for neuronal function. Normal function of the central nervous system (CNS) depends on a delicate balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition. LÄS MER
