6. Two-Barrier Problems in Applied Probability: Algorithms and Analysis
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers (A-E). In Paper A, we study transient properties of the queue length process in various queueing settings. We focus on computing the mean and the Laplace transform of the time required for the queue length starting at $x0. We define the loss rate due to the reflection. LÄS MER
7. Extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant on various surfaces, their applications in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics. Some mathematical models that employ these extreme points such as curve fitting, data smoothing, experimental design, electrostatics, risk control in finance and method for finding the extreme points on certain surfaces are demonstrated. 8. Analysis and Modelling of Mineral and Element Composition in Compression Breakage
Sammanfattning : The outstanding properties of tungsten and tantalum make them valuable metals and, in some cases, irreplaceable in applications. The growing interest due to the high economic importance and the limited supply places these metals in the critical metals risk list. LÄS MER
9. Optimal adaptive designs and adaptive randomization techniques for clinical trials
Sammanfattning : In this Ph.D. thesis, we investigate how to optimize the design of clinical trials by constructing optimal adaptive designs, and how to implement the design by adaptive randomization. LÄS MER
10. Towards Improved Scale-Resolving Modeling and Simulations of Turbulent Flows
Sammanfattning : Scale-resolving simulations are viewed as powerful means for predicting complex turbulentflows, as often encountered in aeronautical applications. However, since turbulent scalesspan over a considerable range from the smallest Kolmogorov scales to the largest ofequivalence to configuration size, scale-resolving computations are often demandingon computational resources and, furthermore, on the underlying numerical methodsused in the simulations.
