1. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) in Type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer disease
Sammanfattning : The misfolding and aggregation of the beta cell hormone islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) into amyloid fibrils is the main pathological finding in islets of Langerhans in type 2 diabetes. Pathological assemblies of IAPP are cytotoxic and believed to contribute to the loss of insulin-producing beta cells. LÄS MER
2. Development of MALDI Mass Spectrometry Imaging Methods for Probing Spatial Lipid Biochemistry of Amyloid Plaques in Alzheimer's Disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most prevalent cause of neurodegenerative dementia. Aggregation of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides into extracellular Aβ plaques is one of the major neuropathological features of AD. LÄS MER
3. Modeling Amyloid-β Pathology in Alzheimer’s Disease Using the Arctic Mutation
Sammanfattning : The Arctic mutation in the Amyloid-β (Aβ) domain of the Amyloid-β precursor protein (APP) causes Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and confers unique biochemical characteristics to Aβ peptides. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate a transgenic model with the Arctic mutation, and to use it to gain new insights into the mechanisms of early (pre-plaque) and late-stage Aβ pathogenesis in AD. 4. Islet Amyloid Polypeptide: Interaction with Amyloid Beta, Alpha-Synuclein and BRICHOS
Sammanfattning : Amyloid, the congophilic deposits of misfolded protein, are pathological hallmarks of many common diseases, among others, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Amyloid beta (Aβ) forms senile plaques in AD, alpha-synuclein (aSyn) forms Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites in PD, islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) forms islet amyloid in T2D. LÄS MER
5. Evaluation of amyloid precursor protein and ß-amyloid as biomarkers for Alzheimer s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterised by accumulations of neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques. The major components of the amyloid deposits are the ß-amyloid (Aß) peptides derived from the amyloid precursor protein (APP). LÄS MER
