1. Photoelectron Spectroscopy on Atoms, Molecules and Clusters : The Geometric and Electronic Structure Studied by Synchrotron Radiation and Lasers
Sammanfattning : Atoms, molecules and clusters all constitute building blocks of macroscopic matter. Therefore, understanding the electronic and geometrical properties of such systems is the key to understanding the properties of solid state objects. LÄS MER
2. Adsorption of surface active elements on the iron (100) surface : A study based on ab initio calculations
Sammanfattning : In the present work, the structural, electronic properties, thermodynamic stability and adatom surface movements of oxygen and sulfur adsorption on the Fe surface were studied based on the ab initio method. Firstly, the oxygen adsorbed on the iron (100) surface is investigated at the three adsorption sites top, bridge and hollow sites, respectively. LÄS MER
3. Theoretical and experimental studies of surface and interfacial phenomena involving steel surfaces
Sammanfattning : The present work was initiated to investigate the surface- and interfacial phenomena for iron and slag/iron systems. The aim was to understand the mechanism of the effect of surface active elements on surface and interfacial properties. LÄS MER
4. Chemical Abundance Analysis of Population II Stars : The Summary Includes a Background in General Astronomy
Sammanfattning : We are made of stardust in the sense that most atomic nuclei around us have been formed by stars. Stars synthesise new elements and expel them to the interstellar medium, from which later new generations of stars are born. We can map this chemical evolution by analysing the atmospheric contents of old Galactic halo stars. LÄS MER
5. Low-Energy Modes of Molecules and Atoms Chemisorbed on a Metal Surface. CO and O on Pt(111) Studied by Infrared Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the investigation of low-energy metal-adsorbate vibrational modes of CO molecules and O atoms chemisorbed on a Pt(111) surface using infrared spectroscopy (IRS). The infrared selection rule states that only vibrational modes having a non-vanishing component of its dynamical dipole moment perpendicular to the surface can be directly excited using IRS, known as dipole-allowed modes.
