6. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction. In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals). 7. Influence of bone-associated and cardiovascular biomarkers on vascular events and mortality in relation to renal dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Biomarkers can help physicians identify subjects with an increased cardiovascular risk. Apart from the clinical factors, some biomarkers have been recognized as important predictors and risk factors for cardiovascular disease in renal disease. LÄS MER
8. Vascular remodeling in pulmonary hypertension
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive obliterative vasculopathy with multifactorial etiology and high mortality rate. Endothelial dysfunction, excessive vascular remodeling, inflammation and in situ thrombosis contribute to increased vascular resistance and gradual occlusion of pulmonary vessels. LÄS MER
9. Primary Hyperparathyroidism : A Study of Cardiovascular Dysfunction and its Reversibility After Parathyroidectomy
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular risk in primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is controversial, and studies mainly from Europe associate HPT with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Cardiovascular morphology and function were evaluated prospectively in 31 consecutive HPT patients (mean serum calcium 2.97±0. LÄS MER
10. Cold finger
Sammanfattning : Post Traumatic Cold Intolerance is the most common, and often the most prominent disabilityfrom hand trauma. The discomfort caused by cold is believed to be linked to a dysfunction o f thedigital vasoregulation, but its pathophysiology is poorly understood. Cold induced vasospasm, i.e. LÄS MER
