  1. 11. Proislet Amyloid Polypeptide (proIAPP) : Impaired Processing is an Important Factor in Early Amyloidogenesis in Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Johan F. Paulsson; Gunilla Westermark; Christer Betsholtz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biosynthesis amyloid; Genetics amyloid; Metabolism amyloid; Islets of Langerhans; Proprotein convertases; Posttranslation protein processing; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyloid is defined as extracellular protein aggregates with a characteristic fibrillar ultra-structure, Congo red affinity and a unique x-ray diffraction pattern. At present, 25 different human amyloid fibril proteins have been identified, and amyloid aggregation is associated with pathological manifestations such as Alzheimer’s disease, spongiform encephalopathy and type 2 diabetes. 2. 12. Why Is It So Hard to Kill a Mast Cell?A Study of Mast Cell Activation and Survival

    Författare :Xiang Zou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; A1; allergy; apoptosis; Bfl-1; degranulation; FcepsilonRI; IgE; inflammation; mast cells; nerve growth factor; regranulation; TrkA; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells have a long life in tissues, where they are involved in inflammatory and hypersensitivity reactions. Activation through cross-linking of the high-affinity IgE-receptor (FcεRI) is a primary stimulus capable of degranulating mast cells, contributing to symptoms of allergy. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The p53-induced Wig-1 protein : identification of mRNA targets and role as a survival factor in development and cancer

    Författare :Lidi Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The tumor suppressor p53 is activated in response to a variety of stress conditions. Upon activation, p53 can trigger apoptosis or cell cycle arrest, or regulate metabolism and other cellular processes by transactivation of its targets genes. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Genetic determinants of lung cancer and their application toward therapeutics. The role of ZFP148 transcription factor and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion proteins in non-small cell lung cancer

    Författare :Abdulmalik Bokhari; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Zfp148; TP53; ALK; EML4-ALK; brigatinib; lorlatinib; RRM2; alectinib;

    Sammanfattning : Lung cancer causes severe morbidity and mortality in millions of patients globally each year. Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutations facilitate neoplastic growth of lung cancer in adults and neuroblastoma in pediatric patients. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Living with inflammatory bowel disease : health-related quality of life, worries, and stress

    Författare :Susanna Jäghult; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Inflammatory bowel disease;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease have a number of worries and concerns related to the disease, and in comparison with a general population their health-related quality of life is impaired. These patients need disease-related information and education. LÄS MER
