    Sammanfattning : Semiconductor quantum dots and metal nanoparticles feature very strong light-matter interactions, which has led to their use in many photonic applications such as photodetectors, biosensors, components for telecommunications etc.Under illumination both structures exhibit collective electron-photon resonances, described in the frameworks of quasiparticles as exciton-polaritons for semiconductors and surface plasmon-polaritons for metals.     Sammanfattning : Quantum optics is the study of interaction between atoms and photons. In the eight papers of this thesis, we study a number of systems where artificial atoms (here, superconducting circuits emulating the level structure of an atom) enable us to either improve on known concepts or experiments from quantum optics with natural atoms, or to explore entirely new regimes which have not been possible to reach in such experiments.     Sammanfattning : Hybrid plasmonic (HP) waveguides, a multi-layer waveguide structure supporting a hybrid mode of surface plasmonics and Si photonics, is a compromise way to integrate plasmonic materials into Si or SOI platforms, which can guide optical waves of sub-wavelength size, and with relative low propagation loss. In this thesis, several HP waveguides and devices are developed for the purposes of optical communications and sensing. LÄS MER
