1. Quantitative bioimaging in single cell signaling
Sammanfattning : Imaging of cellular samples has for several hundred years been a way for scientists to investigate biological systems. With the discovery of immunofluorescence labeling in the 1940’s and later genetic fluorescent protein labeling in the 1980’s the most important part in imaging, contrast and specificity, was drastically improved. 2. Fluorescence Properties of Quantum Dots and Their Utilization in Bioimaging
Sammanfattning : Quantum dots (QDs), especially colloidal semiconductor QDs, possess properties including high quantum yields, narrow fluorescence spectra, broad absorption and excellent photostability, making them extremely powerful in bioimaging. In this thesis, we studied the fluorescence properties of QDs and attempted multiple ways to boost applications of QDs in bioimaging field. LÄS MER
3. Quantum dot biomarkers for tracking endothelial progenitor cells and activated endothelium
Sammanfattning : The development of new visualization techniques is essential in the field of bioimaging to gain deeper knowledge about various medical and biological events at the cellular and molecular levels. Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconductor nanocrystals which are opening new perspectives in biotechnology due to their powerful optical properties and high stability. LÄS MER
4. Image Analysis and Deep Learning for Applications in Microscopy
Sammanfattning : Quantitative microscopy deals with the extraction of quantitative measurements from samples observed under a microscope. Recent developments in microscopy systems, sample preparation and handling techniques have enabled high throughput biological experiments resulting in large amounts of image data, at biological scales ranging from subcellular structures such as fluorescently tagged nucleic acid sequences to whole organisms such as zebrafish embryos. 5. Studies of optical properties of lanthanide upconversion nanoparticles for emerging applications
Sammanfattning : YTTERBY, a small village very close to Stockholm where I live, is the place in the world which has lent its name to the largest number of elements in the periodic table, namely four - YTTRIUM, YTTERBIUM, ERBIUM and TERBIUM. Three more lanthanide elements were discovered from the now empty quarry located in this village. LÄS MER
