  1. 6. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 2. 7. Wind and atmospheric stability characteristics over the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Xiaoli Guo Larsén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal transition; stable conditions; boundary layer rolls; low level jet; WRF; Baltic Sea; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years there has been an increase in offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate wind speed estimates in the marine environment, especially in coastal areas where most wind turbines will be placed. This thesis is focused on the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction play an important role in explaining the wind patterns. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Engineering of the Ultra-stable Cystine Knot Framework of Microproteins : Design, Chemical Synthesis and Structural Studies

    Författare :Teshome Leta Aboye; Ulf Göransson; Julio A. Camarero; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cyclotides; cystine knot; protein engineering; NMR; solid phase; disulfide rich; ultra-stable; microprotein; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Sammanfattning : Ultra-stable cystine knotted microproteins, in which two disulfides and their connecting backbones form a circle that is penetrated by the third disulfide bonds, have attracted high interest due to their resistance to degradation in vitro and potential for the development of peptide drugs. This thesis gives new insights into engineering of that framework of microproteins, including approaches to their chemical synthesis, backbone engineering, structural and biological evaluations. 4. 9. Endogenous Nitric Oxide Production and Pulmonary Blood Flow : during different experimental lung conditions

    Författare :Manja Nilsson; Filip Fredén; Kristina Hambraeus-Jonzon; Göran Hedenstierna; Eddie Weitzberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; pulmonary blood flow; endotoxin; nitric oxide inhalation; endothelin; hypercapnia; acidosis; lavage-induced lung injury; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important regulator of pulmonary blood flow and attenuates hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Nitric oxide is synthesized enzymatically in a number of tissues, including the lungs, and can also be generated from reduction of nitrite during hypoxia and acidosis. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Being able to be stable : exploring primary weight maintenance as a public health strategy for obesity prevention

    Författare :Kristina Lindvall; Lars Weinehall; Mai-Lis Hellenius; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Overweight; Obesity; Weight maintenance; Primary weight maintenance; Sweden; US; Middle-aged; Obesity prevention; Public health; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Background Overweight and obesity are considerable public health issues internationally as well as in Sweden. On a global level, the obesity prevalence has nearly doubled over the last 30 years. Currently in Sweden, more than one third of all women, and slightly more than half of all men, are either overweight or obese. LÄS MER
