  1. 1. Wind and atmospheric stability characteristics over the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Xiaoli Guo Larsén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal transition; stable conditions; boundary layer rolls; low level jet; WRF; Baltic Sea; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years there has been an increase in offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate wind speed estimates in the marine environment, especially in coastal areas where most wind turbines will be placed. This thesis is focused on the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction play an important role in explaining the wind patterns. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Processes important for forecasting of clouds over snow

    Författare :Martin Hagman; Gunilla Svensson; Victoria Sinclair; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary-layer meteorology; WRF; Initialization; Stratocumulus clouds; Parameterization; Stable boundary layer; Single Column Model; meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish Armed Forces setup of the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) has problems to forecast low clouds in stably stratified conditions when the ground is covered by snow. The aim of this thesis is to understand what causes this deficit. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 4. 4. Dispersion modelling of volcanic emissions

    Författare :Adam Dingwell; Rutgersson Anna; David Simpson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dispersion modelling; atmospheric; volcano; gas emissions; volcanic ash; FLEXPART; FLEXPART-WRF; Spridningsmodellering; atmosfär; vulkan; gasutsläpp; vulkanaska; FLEXPART; FLEXPART-WRF; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gases and particles released by volcanoes pose a serious hazard to humans and society. Emissions can be transported over long distances before being reduced to harmless concentrations. Knowing which areas are, or will be, exposed to volcanic emissions is an important part inreducing the impact on human health and society. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Renal dysfunction in heart failure : insights on prevalence and prognosis

    Författare :Ida Löfman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Kidney disease is common in heart failure (HF) and has been found to be associated with worse outcomes. The impact of different degrees of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in HF, as well as the link to, and impact of CKD in HF with reduced (HFrEF), the newly defined mid-range (HFmrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) have been uncertain.
