1. Earning, caring, and the quest for sustainable societies : Toward stable evolution?
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies changing conditions for earning and caring in Italy and Sweden, two cases out of a population of European welfare states facing similar challenges and processes of labor market liberalization affecting conditions for earning, but also for caring. Focus is on how such processes of change affect individual living conditions for earning and caring, as well as on how societies change as a result of changing individual living conditions. LÄS MER
2. Stable iterated function systems
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to generalize the growing theory of iterated function systems (IFSs). Earlier, hyperbolic IFSs with finitely many functions have been studied extensively. Also, hyperbolic IFSs with infinitely many functions have been studied. In this thesis, more general IFSs are studied. LÄS MER
3. Noise sensitivity and FK-type representations for Gaussian and stable processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains four papers on probability theory. Paper A concerns the question of whether the exclusion sensitivity and exclusion stability of a sequence of Boolean functions are monotone with respect to adding edges to the underlying sequence of graphs. LÄS MER
4. Zooplankton growth and trophic linkages : Implications for fish feeding conditions in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : The aim of this Thesis was to improve our understanding and assessment of feeding conditions for zooplanktivorous fish in the Baltic Sea.We investigated (papers I, II) the usefulness of biochemical proxies for assessments of growth and metabolic rates in the dominant Baltic copepod Acartia bifilosa. 5. Microalgal solutions in Nordic conditions : industries transition toward resource recovery?
Sammanfattning : Microalgal solutions can through photosynthesis recover greenhouse gas (CO2) and nutrients from industrial waste, reducing climate footprint and eutrophication. An added value to the process is algal biomass containing lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates with commercial potential for biofuel, feed, and fertilizer. LÄS MER
