1. Magnetic materials with tunable thermal, electrical, and dynamic properties : An experimental study of magnetocaloric, multiferroic, and spin-glass materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns and combines the results of experimental studies of magnetocaloric, multiferroic and spin-glass materials, using SQUID magnetometry as the main characteriza-tion technique. The magnetocaloric effect offers an interesting new technology for cooling and heating applications. LÄS MER
2. Spin Vortices, Interlayer Exchange, and Magnetocalorics in Multilayers
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study strongly coupled pairs of spin vortices, in a configurationsuch that the cores attract while external fields act to pull them apart, with potential applications in magnetic random access memory (MRAM) and oscillators.Inertial decoupling of the cores has been studied and can be achieved with weak nanosecond pulses by the help of anharmonicity. 4. Innovation outside: When spin-off firms and developer communities change the boundaries of the firm
Sammanfattning : Few observers dispute that innovation is at the very heart of economic development and prosperity and a key determinant for the competitiveness of firms. Yet the literature has found it challenging to incorporate the boundary-spanning characteristic of innovation into the theory of the firm. LÄS MER
5. Metal-Organic Complexes at Surfaces
Sammanfattning : The adsorption of different metal-organic complexes at surfaces was investigated by spectroscopic techniques (x-ray photoemission spectroscopy, x-ray absorption spectroscopy, resonant photoemission spectroscopy) and by scanning tunnelling microscopy. The investigation methods are able to provide atomic scale information on the studied systems, which moreover originates from the top-most atomic layers in a sample, meaning that they are surface sensitive techniques.
