1. Computational homogenisation and solution strategies for phase-field fracture
Sammanfattning : The computational modelling of fracture not only provides a deep insight into the underlying mechanisms that trigger a fracture but also offers information on the post-fracture behaviour (e.g., residual strength) of engineering materials and structures. LÄS MER
2. Energy-Centric Scheduling for Real-Time Systems
Sammanfattning : Energy consumption is today an important design issue for all kinds of digital systems, and essential for the battery operated ones. An important fraction of this energy is dissipated on the processors running the application software. To reduce this energy consumption, one may, for instance, lower the processor clock frequency and supply voltage. LÄS MER
3. Effects of ageing on contractility and myosin composition of rat and man skeletal muscles and muscle cells : with special reference to muscle adaptability
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to characterize the effects of ageing on the contractile and biochemical properties of fast- and slow-twitch skeletal muscles at the whole muscle and single fibre level in an attempt to improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the age-related impairments of muscle fibres. Specific interest was in the adaptability of skeletal muscle and the regulation of speed of shortening at single-cell level in the rat and man. LÄS MER
4. Modeling of Multi Terminal HVDC Systemsin Power Flow and Optimal Power Flow Formulations
Sammanfattning : Nowadays, due to lack of a strong interconnection between electric power systems within EU, there is a concern about the restricted power exchange. On the other hand, one of the factors which results in necessity of improving the level of power exchange is development of renewable energy sources such as offshore wind farms. LÄS MER
5. Energy Efficient and Predictable Design of Real-Time Embedded Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses several issues related to the design and optimization of embedded systems. In particular, in the context of time-constrained embedded systems, the thesis investigates two problems: the minimization of the energy consumption and the implementation of predictable applications on multiprocessor system-on-chip platforms.
