  1. 31. A Pilgrimage to the Past : Johannes Bureus and the Rise of Swedish Antiquarian Scholarship, 1600-1650

    Författare :Matthew Norris; Avdelningen för idé- och lärdomshistoria; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Bureus; Antiquarianism; History of Scholarship; Runology; History of Writing; Ancient Wisdom;

    Sammanfattning : At the end of the eighteenth century, Edward Gibbon described the antiquarian scholars of previous generations as men of “profound learning and easy faith.” His exemplar was the Swedish polymath Olof Rudbeck, who in a series of frantic and combative tomes sought to portray Sweden as the model for Plato’s Atlantis and the seething cultural cauldron from which Western civilization had emerged. 2. 32. Extending the Reach of Accurate Wavefunction Methods

    Författare :Mickaël G. Delcey; Roland Lindh; Per-Åke Malmqvist; Martin Schütz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; Density fitting; CASSCF; Analytical gradients; Photochemistry; X-ray spectroscopy; Kemi med inriktning mot kvantkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Quantum Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Multiconfigurational quantum chemistry methods, and especially the multiconfigurational self-consistent field (MCSCF) and multireference perturbation theory (MRPT2), are powerful tools, particularly suited to the accurate modeling of photochemical processes and transition metal catalysis. However, they are limited by their high computational cost compared to other methods, especially density functional theory. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Pathophysiological impact of targeting the ROS-p53 axis

    Författare :Volkan I. Sayin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antioxidants; Cancer; p53; ROS; atherosclerosis;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of this PhD thesis was to define the importance of the interplay between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their activation of the tumor suppressor p53 in development and disease. We addressed this question using molecular biology and biochemical techniques together with mouse genetics and bioinformatics. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Combining mass spectrometric tissue imaging with conventional histology : focus on Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Santiago Solé Domènech; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Historically, most scientific discoveries have been accompanied by previous technological innovation. Representative examples are the introduction of gene sequencing technologies, which allowed for the mapping of the human genome, or the constant improvement in the microscopy field that lead to the introduction of modern multiphoton imaging techniques, allowing for live imaging of body organs in animal specimens. 5. 35. Valley-Polarized Charge Transport in Diamond

    Författare :Nattakarn Suntornwipat; Jan Isberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CVD diamond; valleytronics; Negative Differential Mobility; NDM; electron polarization; Time-of-Flight; ToF; magnetotransport; carrier transport; drift velocity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Sammanfattning : Diamond is a wide bandgap semiconductor with extreme properties such as high thermal conductivity, high breakdown field and high carrier mobilities. These properties together with the possibility to synthesize high purity Single-Crystalline (SC) diamond by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), makes it a really interesting material for electronic devices.
